The Steampunk Challenge

The Steampunk Challenge is a effort through The Bookkeeper to spend one year, from October 2010 to October 2011 reading everything Steampunk. Here’s what the Bookkeeper’s blog has to say about this event:

I have been wanting to try out steampunk for a while now and recently read one story which I quite liked. So now I’m on to explore a bit more and it seems there are more people out there who want to get to know this genre better.

You want to read steampunk, share your opinion and reviews with like minded people? You want to get recommendations from others because you have no idea where to begin? Join the steampunk challenge and share the experience!

The event costs nothing and is simply an effort to get people more exposed to Steampunk fiction and literature. It’s often nice to have the opportunity to talk with someone about a recently completed book or search for recommendations based on previous enjoyed works. As with all genres and works of fiction, some works are better than others, and its great to get opinions from others in determining what Steampunk novel to read next.

Who’s going to participate with me? What are you going to read first? I recently started reading Boneshaker in an effort to find a quicker read than Android Karenina. I’m not sure what I’d like to read after that. We’ll see!

I’ve made a preliminary list of the books I’d like to read (or re-read) for the Steampunk challenge. Let me know if I should add one! I’ll try to do reviews of the books here, so if you want something reviewed, now’s the time to speak up!

  • 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
  • Robur the Conqueror
  • The Souless Series
  • The Difference Engine
  • Homunculus
  • The Time Machine
  • The Somnambulist

This is just the start of this list. I’m hoping to read much more than that in a year!
