Ranch Hand Robbie’s “The Wrong Side”

There’s a new tune that won’t escape my mind. It’s burrowed in there and won’t leave me alone. I’ll find myself unexpectedly humming its melodies to myself at work to keep myself entertained as I crunch numbers and compile mailing lists.

It’s The Wrong Side, by Abney Park.

You may be like, “Oh yeah, I remember that song from their pre-Steampunk days. It sounded a lot like this:”

And I’d nod and say, “Yes, that’s the one, but not really.” Because Abney Park just did a remake of this old classic, and now… IT’S EPIC! Prepare to have your mind blown by banjo solos and bunny ears!

Seriously people, I can’t get this out of my head. Maybe it’s because SteamCon is right around the corner and the sound is so fitting for the con’s theme this year. I hope Abney Park puts this up as a single to download… I’d love to be able to listen to it outside of youtube.

And since we’re on the topic of Abney Park, I thought I’d let you all know I recently received my copy of The End of Days. Expect the review of the album tomorrow.

For the record, it would be a very, very good day if they decided to offer this song as a download! Or better yet, an album of their favorite songs performed acoustically–totally willing to shell out the money for that!

I love, love, love The End of Days. The English major is me is dying to sit down and write a long, detailed review. 21 more days and I can back to my blog and the reviews I love writing!

You know what I’d love to see? Vinyls of their albums.

Seriously though, out of all the people in the world, Steampunks have to be at least twenty seven million times* more likely to own functioning turntables than normal people who are transferring their records to mp3s and tossing them. (What the hell are they thinking?!)

      * Number has been determined through super-scientific formulas. Trust me.

For what it’s worth these Ranch Hand Robbie versions are FUN to play.

As for vinyl I would jump at the chance to have this or the previous Abney Park release on vinyl. There are three functioning turntables in this home… Aah the breath-ability of analog…
